PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 22-year-old man from Bensalem, Pennsylvania, has been charged with the murder of a 14-year-old at a South Jersey gas station over the weekend.
Tamir Phillips was arrested on Monday for fatally shooting 14-year-old Jesse Everett at a gas station in Willingboro, New Jersey.
Police say on Saturday afternoon, the teen was in the driver’s seat of a stolen car outside the Phillips 66 gas station, along with two others.
Authorities say another car pulled up. A person in the passenger seat got out, walked over to the teen and shot him once in the head.
Jesse was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he died.
According to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, Phillips is known to stay in Willingboro and was immediately identified as a suspect.
Investigators discovered that the day before the killing, the owner of the robbed car reported it stolen. They say the owner of that car would often let Phillips borrow it.
Investigators also learned that Phillips and his girlfriend were driving around on Saturday when they spotted the stolen car at the pump. The two fled after the shooting.
As a result, Phillips’ girlfriend, 29-year-old Chelsea Holman of Willingboro, was charged with hindering apprehension and obstruction of justice.
