PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities in New Jersey are looking for the person they say ambushed, shot and killed a teenage boy Saturday afternoon at a Burlington County gas station.

Around 3 p.m., officials say 14-year-old Jesse Everett was in the driver’s seat of a stolen car at the Phillips 66 gas station, off of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Willingboro. Two others were in the car with him.

Officers say another car pulled up, and a person in the passenger seat got out and walked over to the 14-year-old, shooting him once in the head.

The two others in the car were unharmed.

Jesse was taken to a nearby hospital and was then airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he died.

Investigators do not believe this was a random act.

On a GoFundMe campaign for the boy’s funeral expenses, his mother said “Nuk” — his nickname — was “goofy, loving, caring and supportive” who loved to play football and basketball. He was one of 14 children.

She added, “There is nothing in this world that can repair the bond that has been broken nor ease the pain that this tragedy has caused.”

Investigators are continuing to scan surveillance video to figure out what happened.
