PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 19-year-old Lansdowne man has been charged with murder after his pregnant girlfriend was found in their apartment dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

The Lansdowne Police Department said Kaiheem Williams has been charged with first-degree murder.

Officials responded to an apartment building on North Wycombe Avenue, near Powelton Avenue, around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 for a report of someone shot.

Officers found Tanyiah Bell, also 19, in her bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head. She was eight months pregnant.

Police said Bell was pronounced dead at the scene but she was taken to the hospital in an attempt to save the child. According to police, the baby is on life support, having sustained irreversible damage. Officials said the child wouldn’t survive without the life support machines.

According to the criminal complaint, Williams called 911 from Bell’s phone. When police arrived, he frantically told them she was shot. Williams told police Bell was watching TV when he "blacked out." His next memory was calling 911.

Investigators said there was no gun in the bedroom when police arrived. They said Williams denied moving the firearm but also acknowledged that Bell could not have moved the gun with the fatal wound to her head.

Williams is being held without bail.
