PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities arrested a man who they say shot and killed the stepson of a county detective inside a Philadelphia mall food court last month.
Gregory Smith, 20, was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder and other related offenses stemming from the March 29 shooting.
Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Benjamin Naish said dozens of people were inside the mall food court when Smith allegedly fired the deadly shots.
"In front of horrified shoppers, 21-year-old Dominic Billa was shot in the chest and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene inside the Philadelphia Mills Mall," said Naish.
He says they used extensive surveillance video to identify Smith.
"With significant aide of extensive video surveillance that was recovered from inside the mall as well as additional cameras in the area, investigators quickly zeroed in on the suspect," said Naish.
Billa was the stepson of a county detective who worked in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.
