PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man has been arrested in connection to the assault of a Cheltenham Township police officer.
On Saturday, around 9 a.m., Cheltenham Township Police were notified of a “suspicious man” walking along Twickenham Road in Montgomery County. They responded to the call and found the man, now identified as Calvin Yim, 27, on the 500 block of Bridal Way.
Bodycam footage from the scene showed the officer, whose identity has not yet been revealed, exiting his patrol car and approaching Yim, asking him to sit down and talk. In response, Yim punched the officer in the face and attempted to grab his service revolver.
While attempting to gain back possession of his firearm, a shot was fired, hitting Yim in the shoulder. Immediately after, Yim attempted to run off into the woods, but was detained by police.
Both Yim and the officer were taken to nearby hospitals for their injuries and have since been released.
Montgomery County’s District Attorney said Yim is being charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, disarming a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. He is set to be arraigned Saturday at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
