PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man is in custody, and an officer is injured, after a chaotic chase through Northeast Philadelphia Friday evening.
Police said they were pursuing the driver of a U-Haul van around 5:45 p.m., but called it off because it was deemed too dangerous.
The driver in the van then continued at a high rate of speed before crashing into several cars, including a marked police vehicle on Harbison Avenue. An officer was inside the car at the time of the crash. They were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The person in the van then drove away. Police later located the van unoccupied at another location in the Northeast.
A man, believed to be in his 40s, was detained after being seen running away from the van.
He is expected to be charged with assault on an officer.
