MAPLE SHADE, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A man currently living in India is being sought by authorities in Burlington County, who have charged him with the 2017 killing of a mother and her young son in Maple Shade.

Police were called to an apartment in Maple Shade on March 23, 2017 for the stabbing deaths of Sasikala Narra and her six-year-old son Anish. There was blood everywhere, but one droplet found by investigators didn’t match either victim.

It was eventually discovered that Nazeer Hameed, who worked with Narra's husband at the tech firm Cognizant, was a person of interest. Investigators said Hameed had been stalking his co-worker for weeks before eventually killing his wife and child.

Detective Lt. Brian Cunningham said the droplet found at the scene eventually came back as a match to Hameed after Cognizant sent his company laptop from India to the New Jersey State Police. That was to allow investigators to build a DNA profile of the man who had been a person of interest in this case for years.

“Our work continues every day until Nazeer Hameed is brought back to the United States and convicted for these horrible crimes,” Cunningham said.

Hameed is charged with murder and weapons offenses. While the U.S. and India do share an extradition treaty, he remains at large in India. Prosecutors have urged both governments to prioritize his arrest so justice can be served.
