PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of a man Tuesday night outside a South Philadelphia strip club.
Around 9:30 p.m., officials say a 28-year-old man and his friend were in a car in the parking lot of Cheerleaders strip club, near Front Street and Oregon Avenue, when two men came up and robbed them with a long black gun.
The 28-year-old was shot in the chest and later died at Jefferson University Hospital.
“Why the individual after he was being robbed, while he was being robbed, was shot, we don’t know that,” said Deputy Commissioner Ben Naish. “We are in the process of trying to secure and obtain any and all video from the establishment, as well as from the surrounding area.”
Naish said they do not believe there was any kind of confrontation inside the club.
“We think these guys were targeted while they were taking a smoke break,” he added.
There have now been 322 homicides so far in 2021 — up 25% from last year’s nearly record-breaking year.
