PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 22-year-old man was killed during a shootout in a shopping center parking lot in the Wissinoming section of Northeast Philadelphia Thursday night.
Around 10:30 p.m., two groups met outside the ShopRite in the Shoppes at Wissinoming shopping center at Haribson Avenue and Tulip Street, police said.
The victim brandished a gun and a man in the other group took a weapon out as well, and the situation escalated, according to Chief Inspector Scott Small.
“There was an exchange of gunfire and that’s when our victim was struck in the face and the head area. [He] was able to run a few feet and collapsed in the parking lot,” he said.
The man who was shot was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man who shot him, along with a few others who were part of his group, stayed and cooperated with investigators, police said. They were taken to the homicide unit for further questioning.
At least 10 shots were fired. The guns used by the victim and the shooter were recovered from the scene, investigators said.
Police did not initially know what the motive was. It was not immediately clear if charges would be filed.
