PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man pleaded guilty in Federal Court Tuesday afternoon to being one of three who targeted delivery drivers in citywide carjackings — one ending in a death.

On December 2nd, 2021, now-20-year-old John Nusslein and two others ordered food to Teesdale Street in Northeast Philadelphia, where authorities say the trio were spotted. Then, when 70-year-old Chung Yan Chin drove up, the three jumped out of a parked car and attacked him — beating and robbing him of his wallet, cell phone, and keys before taking off in his car.

Chin suffered severe head trauma and died in the hospital a month later.

Authorities say there were several victims between November and December of 2021 — one of the others suffered an orbital bone fracture.

Nusslein told the court he wanted the judge to know that although he was involved, he wasn’t the one to assault the victims — he says the other two defendants did. Their identities remain unknown because they are juveniles and their cases remain sealed.

The defense and prosecutors negotiated a sentence for Nusslein to serve 25 years behind bars. He’ll be sentenced early next year.
