PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in West Philadelphia overnight. Investigators said the victim appeared to be drunk or high.
It happened around midnight on Friday at the busy intersection of Cobbs Creek Parkway and Walnut Street, just blocks away from SEPTA’s 63rd Street Station.
Police said the 50-year-old man, who looked like he was under the influence, was sitting in the middle of the street. When he tried to stand up, a car going south on Cobbs Creek Parkway hit him — and didn’t stop, police said.
The victim was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Officials described the car as a white sedan with a sunroof.
Police will be relying on surveillance cameras from homes and businesses in the area as they try to identify and find the hit-and-run driver.
