PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 40-year-old man in a wheelchair was run over by a Peter Pan coach bus and killed Thursday morning near 30th Street Station.
It happened around 9:30 a.m. near Schuylkill Avenue and Market Street. Police said the Peter Pan tour bus was traveling north on Schuylkill Avenue when the man, who was panhandling between two lanes of traffic, rolled in front of the bus.
The bus driver did not notice the pedestrian wheel in front of the bus. Once the traffic light turned green, the bus continued northbound and struck the man. A medic pronounced the man dead at the scene just before 9:45 a.m.
The bus driver remained at the location, and there were no injuries reported among the bus occupants.
The intersection was blocked off during part of the morning rush and fully reopened around 1 p.m.
