PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man was killed and a woman was injured in two separate hit-and-run crashes that happened hours apart on major highways in Philadelphia.
The deadly crash happened close to 3 a.m. Thursday on the eastbound side of the Schuylkill Expressway, near the Spring Garden Street overpass.
Pennsylvania State Police said an unidentified man, who was lying on the highway for some reason, was hit and killed by a driver, possibly in a Kia.
Police shut down part of I-76 East for hours for the investigation. The driver fled and has not been identified.
Hours prior, around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to I-95 in South Philadelphia. A woman was driving on the southbound side of the interstate near the Packer Avenue and Walt Whitman Bridge exit.
Police said she crashed into the median, and her car got stuck in the left lane. When she got out of the car, police said another car hit her and drove off.
The 37-year-old victim from Clifton Heights survived and is in critical condition at the hospital.
No one has been arrested, and police don’t have a description of the driver or the car they were in.
