PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are searching for the gunman wanted in connection with the shooting of a North Philly couple last weekend.
It happened just before midnight on Aug. 9 as 61-year-old Michelle Wilson and her 67-year-old husband were sitting on their porch near 24th Street and Lehigh Avenue. Wilson was shot in the neck and back and taken to a nearby hospital, where she died around 12:04 a.m.
Her husband had gunshot wounds to his buttocks and is recovering at the hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
Shell casings were scattered on the porch, stairs, sidewalk and street — police found about 20.
Police said they are not sure if the couple were the intended targets or if they were caught in gunfire meant for someone else. An arrest warrant has been issued for 35-year-old Sharriff Perry in connection with the incident.
He faces gun and murder charges. Police said he is about 5-foot-8 and about 170 pounds. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or call the PPD tip line at 215-686-8477.
On Saturday, Aug. 15, balloons and flowers were placed on the couple’s front porch as a vigil took place in their honor. City leaders and community members were there.
“It’s always wrong, but it’s even more upsetting when it’s innocent people who are somehow being retaliated against for something they didn’t do. It’s just awful,” District Attorney Larry Krasner told our newsgathering partners at NBC10.
As with all homicides, there is a $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
“I have confidence that we are actually going to see the responsible individuals in custody facing a fair trial and getting the consequence that they will deserve,” Krasner told NBC10.
