PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police found the bodies of a man and woman in Fairmount Park Thursday night, who investigators believe were killed in an execution-style shooting.

Around 11 p.m., police received a 911 call about a body along the side of the road on Mount Pleasant Drive near Reservoir Drive. Responding officers discovered two victims: 38-year-old Krystina Chambers who had been shot in the head and chest, and 49-year-old Thurston Cooper who was shot in the head.

“Both of their bodies are lying next to each other on the side of the road; there’s a little gully on the side of the road,” Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Investigators found spent shell casings close to the bodies as well, indicating an execution-style shooting, according to Small.

“It appears the shooter or shooters were standing very, very close to these two victims when the shots were fired,” he said.

The bodies were located about a half-block away from the historic Mount Pleasant Mansion. There are surveillance cameras outside the property, so police are hopeful the footage will help them identify anyone who may have been involved in the deadly shooting.

A motive is not yet clear.
