Medical Report: Add 10 minutes of exercise to your day and save your life

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Could adding 10 minutes of exercise to your day, every day, save your life? The CDC thinks so.

If someone told you exercising lightly an extra 10 minutes a day could prolong your life, would you do it? The harsh reality is that statements like these are virtually impossible to quantee on an individual level. We don't know what is in the cards and when we are going to die — so how can we pick a certain amount of time each day for exercise and say we will live longer as a result? Here is how it works.

The CDC and other health organizations look at huge numbers of people — just like life insurance companies do — and add and subtract variables. What they have found is that taking the stairs, parking further from the grocery store front door, and other simple activities will improve your overall health.

Think of exercise as the greatest medication in the world — and it's free.
