PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A growing number of studies are finding that the best way to improve the health of women in their 60s and 70s is to pay more attention to their health while in their 50s and 60s.
Women who suffer from health issues, like high blood pressure, other forms of cardiovascular disease and depression, usually experience poorer health as they age. A new report finds that if changes can be made in particular areas of focus while women are younger, their health can be dramatically improved in the future.
Key areas of change include weight reduction for those who are obese, elimination of cigarette smoking, reduction of alcohol, and control of blood sugar.
The researchers stress that it is important to intervene before a decline, but there must be a focus on these areas.
