Medical Report: Don't skip warm-ups for your winter workouts

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It is important to exercise throughout the year, but as the weather gets colder, there are some important adjustments to make.

What do you think is the most common excuse most people use to avoid exercising? I bet you know the answer and have used this excuse: "I don't have enough time."

Certainly leisure time is at a premium. And many people are working harder than ever. However, finding time for ourselves and our health is important. But this mental time crunch causes another issue, and it can lead to injury, especially in cold weather: Not taking time to warm up.

We always need time to let our tendons and ligaments loosen before beginning to exercise — especially when it's cold outside. Think of taffy and how it reacts to warm and cold. That is what our tendons and ligaments are like. If you don't warm up, they can snap like a piece of candy.
