PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — High blood pressure during pregnancy is far more common than most people realize. A 2019 study found that almost 16% of pregnancies in 2019 were complicated by high blood pressure. This is one of the major reasons why women need to receive care in the weeks leading up to pregnancy and throughout pregnancy.

If blood pressure is not treated during pregnancy, it can have an impact on the size and health of the baby.

It is also important for the mother to continue to receive care after the baby is born. High blood pressure in the weeks and months after delivery can remain an important health issue.
