PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — There is tremendous value to a good night's sleep. If you do not get the proper amount of sleep, you are at a greater risk for symptoms of anxiety and depression as well as becoming more vulnerable to stress.

People who don't get the proper amount of sleep can experience concentration issues or weight gain due to hormonal imbalance.

If you aren't getting enough sleep, some simple steps can help:

— Keep your bedroom cool and quiet
— Don't use electric devices an hour before bedtime
— Try to establish a consistent pattern of when you go to bed

If these steps don't help, talk with your doctor. There are sleep experts who can be a big help.
