PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — We are what we eat, but do we always know what we are eating? One of the best ways to know more is to make careful decisions at the grocery store.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration makes it a bit easier, if we know what to look for. The FDA has rules about food packaging containing nutritional statistics.
One key thing to look for is serving size. If the package contains two servings, you need to double the calories and also double the nutrients.
Look for foods with fiber, calcium, vitamin D, potassium and iron. One other thing: Look for foods with less saturated fat.
