PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — We have known for quite some time that pre-existing conditions are linked to the severity of COVID-19 and the number of deaths. A researcher from Emory University in Atlanta has studied people who have had lingering symptoms of COVID-19 more than four weeks after the infection and have discovered an association with diabetes.
People with diabetes appear to be at greater risk of long COVID. There are several clear messages. The first is that people need to be screened for diabetes and provided treatment if necessary. The second is that, when people are suffering from symptoms of long COVID they should have their blood sugar monitored and the physician should look for other warning signs of pre-existing conditions.
