Medical Report: Protection after a COVID-19 infection

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The omicron variant has swept through the country at a staggering rate. Fortunately, vaccines protected the vast majority from serious illness, even if infected.

But what if you are fully vaccinated and still contracted COVID-19, how safe are you once you have recovered?

Certainly, nothing is 100% when COVID-19 is involved, but those vaccinated who contract COVID-19 are expected to be at far less risk of infection for three to six months and far less likely to spread the virus if infected.

There is also growing evidence to support that after each vaccine dose or natural infection, the body gets better at fighting the virus. However, no one should go out and try to get the virus to boost immunity.
