PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Health experts from around the globe are debating the merits of testing travelers from China for COVID-19 infection. Is there a real need for that? Will the testing make a difference? What is so different about travelers from China than the rest of the world?

It all comes down to percentages — and the fact that China is not transparent about sharing data.

China has a population of 1.4 billion and suddenly ended its zero-COVID policy. It is hard to know how effective China's vaccination program has been. It seems like there is  little natural immunity.

This is a set-up for mutation of the virus. The concern is that an aggressive strain could develop.

There is one fact that can't be disputed: We are a global society and the more we share information, the better for all of us.
