PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — St. Patrick’s Day is a storied tradition, but in the past two years, it has been seen by many as a link to the pandemic.
As the world begins to open up, one of the first events is a five-day St. Patrick’s celebration in Dublin, marketed as the “largest in scale and ambition to date.”
It was in March 2020 that COVID-19 truly hit its deadly stride, and it was another year before vaccines first became widely available. St. Patrick’s Day festivities in 2020 became superspreaders before the term was coined.
Two years later, the celebrations are returning. Depending on people’s vaccination status, overall health and comfort level, they are a symbol of what we all hope is a return to a sense of normalcy.
The hope is that St. Patrick’s Day is just the beginning of better times ahead.
