Medical Report: Tips for safe grilling

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Cooking on a grill can be rewarding and fun. You get to spend time outdoors, and you get a great meal, but there are certain things to remember as you fire up the grill.

Before using your gas grill for the first time this year, check all the lines and make sure things are in working order. if you are using a charcoal-fueled grill, don't pour lighter fluid on already-lit charcoal.


The last thing you want is to be burned. Each year, there are almost 11,000 fires on the grill that lead to emergency room visits.

Finally, you want to make certain the food you eat is free of bacteria. Don't use the same plates for raw and cooked foods and keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold.
