PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — In recent weeks, we have seen a sharp rise in COVID cases, and the latest variant making the rounds is called JN.1.
How were officials able to identify the rise in cases and the virus? Some people continue to test themselves to make certain they get early treatment and avoid spreading the virus to others.
In many cases, the results go unreported. Wastewater surveillance, however, is giving us a great deal of information. Looking at virus levels in wastewater is an excellent tool that the CDC is perfecting.
Data is updated weekly, measuring the concentration of the virus' genetic material.
