PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — RSV, or respiratory syncytial virus, usually causes mild symptoms that are much like a cold. The vast majority of people get better in seven days or so, but RSV can be much tougher on infants and older adults, even requiring hospitalization.
Vaccines are available for those over 60 and with chronic conditions. The CDC also strongly recommends that babies who are 8 months and younger receive an RSV immunization.
The CDC recommends the vaccine for toddlers who have certain other health conditions. This is one of those cases where it is important to talk with your doctor, as prevention can help avoid serious complications.
