PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — As the weather heats up, more of us will be heading outside to exercise. Especially in competitive exercise, injuries can occur.

Shoulder injuries are quite common and rotator cuff problems account for 65% of all visits to the doctor for shoulder pain. That’s because the rotator cuff is the major shoulder stabilizer and it’s made up of four muscles that can work great with a wide range of motion, but also can be damaged by trauma or repetitive use.

Depending on the injury – especially if it is a tear – surgery may be required. But depending on the injury, physical therapy may do the trick. The most important point is to have it evaluated and be sure not to ignore diagnosis and treatment.
