PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The number of female physicians has been growing dramatically since the turn of the century. According to a study from the University of Michigan, women now represent 38% of physicians in the United States and more than 55% of medical students.
But what specialties are they choosing when they graduate? And in what roles are you most likely to find a female doctor for your care?
Most are choosing primary care — pediatrics, family medicine, internal medicine and OB-GYN. A significant percentage are choosing surgery. However, relatively few are choosing non-surgical specialties such as cardiology, gastroenterology and neurology.
