2 charged in days-long family abduction in Northeast Philadelphia

A bank teller alerted police when one suspect tried to withdraw stolen funds

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two men have been charged for holding a young family hostage for days in the city’s Holmesburg neighborhood earlier this month.

Authorities say George Pollydore and Anthony Clark abducted a man outside a Decatur Street home on Feb. 4. They beat him, stole money and held his wife and baby hostage over the days that followed.

They brought the man to various places over the course of that weekend, hitting him at times and stealing money from his accounts.

The pair also allegedly controlled him by threatening violence against his wife and baby.

On Feb. 6, the man’s father went to check on the family at their home. Officials say the duo pulled him into the house, beat and robbed him. The victim’s friend also went over to check on them and was also taken hostage.

Later that day, the pair drove the victim to Rivers Casino and left him with his car. He then drove to the nearest Wawa and called police.

Since the victim’s account had so many unusual withdraws, his account was flagged.

The next day, police say Clark and a woman walked into a TD Bank on Frankford Avenue and tried to take out more cash, but a bank teller who had seen news reports about the incident alerted police, and Clark was arrested.

Pollydore was arrested a few days later.

Both have lengthy criminal histories. Pollydore’s dates back seven years for gun, theft and drug charges. Clark’s record goes back to 1988. He’s been convicted of robbery, drug and gun charges.

Both are now charged with a slew of offenses, including kidnapping, robbery and assault.

The investigation is ongoing as detectives continue looking for more suspects.
