PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man has admitted to killing a 77-year-old woman with his car in the Overbrook neighborhood last year.
Michael Harper pleaded guilty Friday to five counts, including involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle and DUI — in return, prosecutors dropped four other charges.
Authorities said Harper struck and killed Dorothea Cathell as she was walking home from the ShopRite with Halloween decorations along 54th Street and Lancaster Avenue, and then drove off.
They said he was driving a black Infiniti with paper tags and left her in the street. She was taken to the hospital, where she died.
Police recovered the vehicle, which had cracked molding on the front bumper and grille, a dent on the hood, and a broken windshield.
Harper turned himself in to police. He is set to be sentenced in February.
