PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — There’s a new mini soccer pitch in Dilworth Park.
The 7,000 square-foot pitch celebrates the World Cup events happening this summer.
Officials say the area will have activities like cornhole and tables for people to gather.
Pat and his son, Patrick, were among the first people to try out the pitch, and his son shared his favorite part of soccer: Kicking the ball.
"We're excited to have soccer in Philadelphia this summer,” said Pat. “I'm excited to see a lot of this. See a lot of kids grow up and hopefully improve the game here as a whole in the U.S."
The pitch was created through a partnership with NRG, Vivint, and the Center City District.
Amy Genda from the Center City District says Dilworth Park will be a hub for this summer's festivities.
“You can't play an actual game here, but we welcome people to come, you know, kick a little soccer ball around. There's lots of little kids that are going to want to try their hand at soccer after they see everything that's going on this summer, and we welcome them."
The pitch will be open through early October.
