PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The family of Glen Pysher, the man shot and killed by police in Montgomery County over the weekend, said he went to the wrong backyard by mistake, thinking it was his friend’s house.
“It’s a small little error that cost him his life. It never should have happened. The cops should have never resorted to such force,” said his mother, Erin Pysher.
Prosecutors said someone called 911 to report a possible break-in at a home on Snyder Road in Upper Pottsgrove around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
They said police officers found 22-year-old Glen Pysher in the backyard and, after some sort of “encounter,” police shot and killed him.
Erin Pysher said her son got lost and was on the phone with friends for a couple of minutes before he was shot.
“He was unarmed. He wasn’t trying to do anything dangerous or malicious or hurt anybody,” she said. “It escalated way too fast.”
She said her son was set to transfer to Saint Elizabeth College in New Jersey in the fall, where he wanted to play baseball and study to become a history teacher.
Montgomery County officials are still investigating.
