NORRISTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) -- Halloween is a few weeks away, and Montgomery County is out with some safety tips.
County Commissioner Val Arkoosh says officials have been getting a lot of questions about Halloween, so they posted recommendations to their website for a "safe and fun Halloween."
She says they’re based on the CDC rankings of activities that are low-, moderate- and high-risk for COVID-19.
One of the key takeaways: “Social distancing should happen as it would in any activity," Arkoosh said. "We are recommending that trick-or-treaters do not grab candy from a bowl that every child is reaching into."
She says kids should stay with household members or clusters and avoid large groups. They should wear face coverings, even if they have a Halloween mask on, and use hand sanitzer regularly.
"The guidelines do recommend that you still have a cloth face covering on even if you have a Halloween mask on with it, and I bet people could do some really creative things with that," she said.
She adds they have suggestions on their website, including individually wrapped bags, and "candy chutes," PVC pipe set-ups that let people give out candy from a distance.
"People are coming up with really fun, innovative ways to deliver candy to kids from a distance," she said.
Anyone thinking of hosting an event can email their plans for the county to review.
