PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Montgomery County is relaxing its recommendation that masks be worn while on the field during outdoor sports or exercise.
The policy will take effect on Friday, May 14.
"We hope this small change in policy will help our student-athletes feel a bit more normal on the field as we all work to get back to normal," said county Commissioner Dr. Val Arkoosh.
Bucks, Chester, and Delaware counties have already said it's OK for kids on the field or in competition to take their face masks off.
A school or athletic organization can still opt to keep the mask requirement in place.
In accordance with state and federal guidelines, subs on the bench, spectators and coaches should continue to wear masks. Masks should also be worn when people cannot maintain a social distance or when there's a mixture of vaccinated and unvaccinated people.
Indoor masking guidance remains unchanged.
