PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Federal authorities have indicted a Montgomery County woman who they say stole more than a million dollars from the Federal Emergency Management Administration after Hurricane Ida.

Jasmine Williams, 33, faces two-dozen counts of wire fraud, one count of fraud related to a major disaster and seven counts of mail fraud.

Authorities say Williams used social media to pretend she would help people apply for FEMA benefits after an emergency was declared in September of 2021 following the storm.

They say she then “submitted fraudulent claims” to FEMA, which they say included fake leases, landlord letters and home repair estimates.

They say she then kept half of the $1.5 million for herself.

If convicted, Williams could spend the rest of her life in prison.
