PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A new report in the Journal of the American Medical Association finds the generic drug market is growing in many countries, including Australia, Belgium and Canada.
The prices are often much lower than in the United States. It raises an important question: Are we getting medications from those markets and others?
There are laws that govern this, with a focus on safety. The only type of legally imported FDA-approved drugs are those that are "manufactured in foreign FDA-inspected facilities, intended for use by us consumers and imported to us by the drug manufacturer."
You can find out where your medications are produced by looking at prescription packaging or asking your pharmacy.
