PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A mother and her child were rescued from a two-alarm house fire in Chester Wednesday night. Both were badly injured and taken to the hospital.
The fire started around 9 p.m. in a twin home on Wilson Street, near Second Street, just blocks away from Subaru Park.
Firefighters were on the scene within minutes. Samantha, who lives on the block, said the woman who lives in the house was screaming because her child was still inside.
“All you can see was part of her hair burnt and her arm,” she said. “From my understanding, she was screaming, trying to get back in the house. She didn’t want to leave, which is understandable — who would want to leave their child in the house?”
Fire officials said crews went up to the second floor, grabbed the child, and ran out.
Both mother and child were taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition. Neighbors said another child who lives in the house was able to run out and get to a safe place.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
