PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Despite many other events set to take place this year for America’s 250th birthday, Mount Holly Township is canceling its Fourth of July celebration due to safety concerns.

Police announced the decision to scrap the 2026 Mount Holly Township Independence Day Celebration after tracking violent incidents at events in surrounding areas over the last few months.

In a statement posted online, Mount Holly officials said they “could not enact a viable, actionable solution in such a short period of time to alleviate our security concerns without incurring additional, significant costs to the Township and our residents.”

On May 1, police responded to a large group of teenagers creating a chaotic scene at the Maple Shade Tigers youth football carnival. The rest of the fundraiser was canceled.

Several fights broke out during the Roebling Carnival on May 27 in Florence Township, canceling that event as well.

The township said the decision was difficult and thanked supporters who have attended over the years.
