Gov. Murphy quarantining after family member tests positive for COVID-19

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy is quarantining after a member of his family tested positive for COVID-19. The governor himself tested negative.

Murphy said the first lady has tested negative, but another member of his family has tested positive for COVID-19. He declined to identify who it was and said over Zoom that even though he tested negative, he was canceling in-person appearances.

“We are still living in the same house. And we don’t want to take any chances,” he said.

At that same briefing, Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli said the state had hit “pause” on the new vaccine call center’s ability to make appointments.  She said agents taking calls needed more training on appointment scheduling.

“It ended up with things like double booking, which is something we cannot have,” she said.

At a separate news conference, Camden County Commissioner Director Lou Cappelli said people registering with Camden County for vaccines shouldn’t be discouraged if they get an appointment in the late summer or fall.

“We’re absolutely certain that your date will be moved up significantly as more vaccine becomes available,” Cappelli said.

The state also said selected CVS and Rite Aid locations Thursday were beginning to take vaccine appointments.
