PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Mütter Museum in Center City is inviting guests to celebrate horror story history, but with the goal of saving lives.
They’re holding a blood drive inspired by Dracula.
“We need to constantly supply the blood that other people will need, and we can only do that through donors who are generous enough to donate time and blood,” said Dr. René F. Najera with the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
The event, Najera said, is part of the museum’s year-long celebration of the 125th anniversary of “Dracula.” Bram Stoker’s legendary horror tale, and its title character, are often associated with an unquenchable thirst for blood.
The drive will be held on Saturday, January 7 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, located at 19 S. 22nd Street.
“Blood is essential and perishable, so we must have the supply always up to date, always fresh and ready to go so that we can help people,” said Najera.
He said blood will especially help “accident victims, burn victims, people with some of the chronic diseases like sickle cell anemia, cancer.”
There’s an extra incentive to attend. “Anyone who donates will be given free admission to the Mütter Museum, the medical museum of oddities,” said Najera.
That includes the exhibit “Dracula and the Incorruptible Body,” which runs through May 2023.
