PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — New Jersey is adding more drop boxes to make it easier for people to vote in November.
Every active, registered voter in the state will get a ballot in the mail. If you’d rather drop off your vote to ensure it gets where it needs to be rather than rely on the post office to deliver it, there are plenty of options.
“The boxes are open 24/7, and they are secure and monitored by a video camera,” Camden County Freeholder Melinda Kane said. “And they will be available for residents to drop off their ballot up until 8 p.m. on Election Day.”
Kane said most of the boxes are at familiar places, like township municipal buildings.
“We encourage people to take advantage of it. If you’re living in one community but working in another, you can drop off your ballot at that box,” she added.
You can drop off ballots for up to five immediate family members or three people not in your family. But whoever makes the drop must sign the green return envelope.
“We’re trying to assure everyone that it’s the safest thing you can do.”
The deadline to register is Tuesday, October 13.
Dropbox locations are available for Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, and Gloucester counties.
