OCEAN COUNTY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A New Jersey woman is charged in the deaths on Tuesday of her two young daughters at their home in Ocean County.
The county prosecutor's office says officers responded Tuesday to a call in Lakewood for two children in cardiac arrest in a home on Shenandoah Drive. Paramedics were already on scene making lifesaving efforts when officers arrived, but those efforts failed and both little girls, ages 1 and 3, were pronounced dead at the home just before 5 p.m.
Their mother, 27-year-old Naomi Elkins, is charged with two counts of murder and related offenses. Investigators say she drowned both girls, and they say the 1-year-old was also stabbed.
Elkins was taken into custody without incident. She is currently held in the Ocean County jail, pending a detention hearing.
