NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — New Jersey Transit will now allow refunds for one-way tickets purchased before June 1. The transit agency previously said it would not issue refunds for bus, rail and light rail tickets after 30 days, but officials put the policy on hold until later this summer.
Some customers may have purchased tickets with the impression they didn’t expire. Now, tickets purchased after June 1 must be used by July 31, and will not be eligible for refunds after that. Starting in July, tickets will only be valid for 30 days.
To get a refund, bring your ticket to a customer service office. Locations can be found here.
Mobile app riders don’t have to take any action. Refunds are automatically converted into a credit.
NJ Transit strongly urges passengers not to purchase tickets they can’t use before July 31. This change, officials say, will help eliminate fraud and save the agency $25 million a year.
