PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Performers from both Broadway and Broad Street are teaming up for a special holiday performance that’s inspired by local stories.
Holiday Memories is a virtual program that uses different art forms to tell holiday stories.
“We have dancers. We have singers, we have musicians. We have poetry being read,” said Lindsay Roberts with the Rho Theta Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, one of the groups presenting the program.
She said many of the stories told throughout the performances were inspired by some of our neighbors.
“The real stars of the show are our members of the West Philadelphia Senior Community Center, and also some seniors from across the Philadelphia region who are sharing their holiday memories,” Roberts said.
Holiday Memories was originally meant to be done in front of a physical audience, but the pandemic moved it online, and they wanted to make sure it could reach some of the people hardest hit by the pandemic.
“Our seniors specifically are going through exacerbated seasons of loneliness and separation,” Roberts said.
Holiday Memories will be available for online viewing starting this Friday at 7 p.m., and it runs through New Year's Day.
