SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — New Jersey Assemblyman Michael Torrissi is offering the services of his trucking company to help relief efforts in areas of Florida ravaged by Hurricane Ian.

Torrissi Transport hauls gasoline and other kinds of fuel up and down the East Coast. After the hurricane, he sent drivers to Florida. Fuel was needed for modes of transportation, such as Coast Guard helicopters used for rescue operations.

“We started right away, as soon as the hurricane was over, delivering jet fuel, various types of jet fuel, that the helicopters and planes run on,” he said.

The Lee County Fair Grounds in Florida has become the staging area for hundreds of utility trucks and first responders to gas up, too. Torrissi said his crews answered the call to help.

“There’s a lot of good people we have that work for us from the Philadelphia and New Jersey area that go down there, and to go a couple of weeks like that — without air conditioning, sleeping in a tent on a cot — and they’re there to help the people that have been absolutely devastated,” he said.

“It takes a lot to go into an area that’s devastated.”

Torrissi said his heart breaks for the families who lost everything, and he’s glad to assist in some way.

“I thank God I’m in a position to help people,” he added.
