SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Since President Donald Trump's Administration has all but killed the offshore wind industry, officials in New Jersey are now thinking about what comes next for one of the state’s green energy priorities.

New Jersey had positioned itself as one of the leading manufacturers in the offshore wind industry with a gigantic facility in Paulsboro producing major components. President Trump stopped that rather quickly by ending federal permits for those jobs.

New Jersey Economic Development Authority CEO Tim Sullivan says this is extremely disappointing and going forward, he and the EDA are accelerating a strategic review of their options.

In a statement, Sullivan says they remain firm believers in the long-term potential of offshore wind in New Jersey but their role as financial stewards requires them to examine all options available to maximize job creation and financial potential.

So far it’s unclear what else can be made at the Paulsboro plant or other facilities. Sullivan says additional updates will be provided as they happen.
