LOWER MAKEFIELD, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A New Jersey state prosecutor is being held on $2 million bail after investigators in Bucks County said he was caught sharing AI-generated child sex abuse materials online.
The Bucks County District Attorney's Office said 51-year-old Brian Richard Fitzgerald, who makes his living prosecuting insurance fraud for the New Jersey Attorney General, faces multiple felony charges stemming from AI-generated child sex abuse materials that he shared over social media.
Bucks County DA Joe Khan called the charges against Fitzgerald “horrific,” especially because he is a public servant.
“It is a reminder that absolutely nobody is above the law, least of all somebody who's entrusted with upholding it,” said Khan.
Investigators were tipped off to Fitzgerald by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children after a user posted an illicit image to a Discord server. The user’s account was traced to Fitzgerald’s house in Lower Makefield.
Police executed a search warrant at Fitzgerald’s house on Edgewood Road on Thursday and found prompts and scripts used to create the images in an AI program.
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office has yet to respond to a KYW Newsradio request for comment.
