SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — After facing multiple lawsuits and ethics complaints, Atlantic County prosecutor Damon Tyner has resigned.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy’s office confirmed his resignation took effect at 9 a.m. Tuesday. He apparently engaged in an outstanding amount of misconduct during his tenure.
Tyner was sued by current and former employees in 2019 for initiating gender discrimination and creating a toxic work environment for women. The lawsuit led to an investigation by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, which learned he also lied to the public and was involved in retaliation against a whistleblower.
A previously settled lawsuit alleged Tyner tried to bribe a former assistant prosecutor during union negotiations and made political favors for others.
Last week, the Office of the Atlantic County Prosecutor said Tyner was named prosecutor of the year by the New Jersey Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association.
Tyner made history when he was first appointed for being the first Black person to hold the position in Atlantic City.
